Gorham High School - 3rd Annual Cardboard Boat Race

I guess I’m not the only one building kayaks up here!  I wonder how many sank.  Maybe next year I could come in and give them some pointers.  They could make some stitch and glues out of cardboard that would perform and look better than those pointy boxes.  Still, great to see some ingenuity.  Read on:

Gorham High School students Jordan Erickson and Cody Gauthier race towards the finish line during the third annual cardboard boat race. Erickson’s team, racing in the Muffin Monster, wound up taking fi rst place in the competition, while Gauthier’s team, in the General Lee 1, took second place. This year 10 teams built boats and raced them during the competition at Libby Pool on Tuesday afternoon. Most of the students are from the tenth grade geometry class. The races are the culmination of a project for the class that includes creating a scale model of a kayak, researching and developing the first boat sketches, building a scale model of the cardboard boat and eventually constructing the boat.
