Below is a summary of the Black Pearl project:

BOAT DESIGN:

  • Black Pearl hull as modified by Bjorn Thomasson for S Lovrien.
    • LOA = 19′-1″ (582 cm)
    • Beam = 19-3/4″ (50 cm)
    • 9″ (230 mm) foredeck height
    • 5.3″ ( mm) aftdeck height
    • Finished weight (less outfitting by SL) = 28 pounds (12.7 kg).
  • Add small 1 to 1-1/4″ fixed cherry skeg on bottom per plan size and location.

MAIN COLOR:

  • Semi-gloss black (interior also black). High gloss rubbed to a semi-gloss finish.
  • Pigmented epoxy, clear wetout coats, pigmented filler coats, primer, 2 part poly-urethane finish (Epifane’s Poly Black).

TRIM COLOR:

  • Ivory (Epifane’s Light Oyster).
  • Artwork: Pirate Skull & Crossbones with name on forward deck. Protected with 3 coats of System 3 Clear LPU (waterborne linear poly-urethane).
  • Size 3”x3” approx.
  • Thin (1/4″) accent stripe at water line (boot-top).
  • Fore and aft Usuuappuu (protective tips).

LAYUP

  • Deck 3oz Satin Weave in and out.
  • Hull 4oz S-2 cloth IO.

HATCHES

  • Carbon/FG lips magnets/internal bungee backup. w/ internal tethers. Protected with three coats of System 3 LPU).
  • 8″ rear (outer dia of wood hatch).
  • 7″ front (outer dia of wood hatch).

COCKPIT

  • Coaming: 3/4″ high, 1/4″ lip, carbon fiber coated.
  • Lip: inner laminations cedar/outer cherry.
  • recess front of coaming (1″ max).
  • 48 cm x 38 cm (18.9″ x 15″).

OUTFITTING

  • Maroske “tube” fittings everywhere.
  • 3/8” dia. finished hole.
  • Add Maroske fittings for front paddle loop (4” min between holes).
  • SL to do own outfitting.
  • DC to drill holes for handle loops. No handles, just black rope loops (by SL).
  • Add cherry Usuuappuu (protective tips) on ends.
    • Turned tenon on tip in hole drilled into stems.
    • Permanent installation. Shank of tips blended into deck/hull.
    • 1 – 1 1/2″ long with diameters of 5/8″ to 1 1/4″.
    • Painted ivory.

BULKHEADS

  • Rear per Plans. Top flush with coaming edge, seat in correct fore/aft position.
  • Front 50″ forward of rear coaming edge.
  • Made of fiberglassed woodstrip panels (3 oz Satin E glass).
  • Forward SL template of forward bulkhead for outfitting.

TOTAL BUILD TIME: 110.67 hrs

    Hello, I wanted to do a joke about the pirate boat in the film “Pirates of the Caribbean” who have the same name “Black Pearl”.

    I said that the Black Pearl is not only a boat plenty of ridicules pirates. It could be a very smart kayak.
