Some thoughts on the business’ direction…
May 18th, 2007 | By Dan (CSFW) | Category: NewsDuring the past few weeks I’ve been playing around with the idea of basically splitting off the canoe and kayak side of the business. My thought would be to divide the business in two: Clear Stream Fine Woodworking would remain for furniture and cabinetry. It would be under the clearstreamwood.com website. The boat building side would become something like “Clear Streak Kayaks (CSK)”, “Clear Stream Canoe & Kayak (CSCK)” or “Clear Stream Kayak and Canoes (CSKC)”. Should I have the word “Wood” or “Wooden” in there (ie. “Clear Stream Wood Kayaks” to emphasize the wooden boat aspect? It would have it’s own website (at least it’s own URL: clearstreamkayaks.com). I’d have links to-and-from each website to the other.
Here’s my thinking: The current CS Fine Woodworking name doesn’t imply boat building. It implies furniture and cabinetry, which was my original intent for the company. Over the past year building kayaks and canoes have become THE predominant side of the business. I’d like a name for the company that has a boating reference.
So, should I keep the company how it is or should I split off the canoes/kayaks? If I do what do I name the resulting company? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Nothing will happen for a while at any rate. Thanks.
Dan
BTW: We are now taking orders for 2008! Our late fall slot just got filled with a bright finished canoe for a customer in Florida.
