2007 Prospector 13 Canoe

2007 Prospector 13

The “999” is a bright finished canoe for Robert and Jackie W. in Florida. It was built during the fall of 2007 as a a graduation present to himself for getting his civil engineering masters (knew I liked the guy).  He wanted a shorter boat so we took the old, trusted 16 foot long Prospector model and made a 13 foot long version. In actuality it ended up being a whole new design.  Primary woods are western red cedar and eastern white pine with ash and black walnut accents. Fittings are brass and silicone-bronze.  What was amazing was it only took 80 hours to build.  You can read more in the Update Log about how it was designed and made.

I thought I would send you an update.

We just had the canoe out with some friends on the Ichetucknee River, a beautiful clear water spring fed river about 30 min from our home here in Gainesville. The water temp is 73 deg or greater year round. The river is created by a spring and cool enough that there are no alligators.

There is a pretty good flow to the river. We put in about 3 miles from the spring head and paddled upstream.
Honestly I was amazed. The first thing I noticed was that in the middle of the river with the bow pointed upstream the boat held its position. It was an amazing thing. No paddling just sitting in the river pointing upstream, with my wife in front and me in the back seat. It’ like the water was not even knowing we were there.

We paddled up stream for an hour or so and then let the river bring us back. We all had a great time. I am including some action pics… Enjoy!
