Black Pearl built for Chris R. in Queens, NYC during the summer of 2007.

The Black Pearl is a long, low and narrow kayak of east greenland ancestry – extremely easily handled, instantly reacting to shift of weight, leaning etc, and with enough secondary stability to support leaned turns, balance brace and such. It is very easily rolled. Designed by Björn Thomasson Design, Lund, Sweden.

  • Painted with Interlux Perfection in Jet Black (It was originally painted with Bainbridge White WR-LPU made by System 3.  The paint had adhesion issues and needed to be removed.  Chris decided to repaint it black instead.).
  • Modified Light-weight fiberglass lay up: Deck outside 3.25 oz Satin Weave, Deck Inside and Hull I&O 4oz S-2 cloth.
  • Hatches are 8″ Beckson screw-in deck plates, polished smooth w/ internal tethers.
  • Coaming: solid carbon fiber with full recess.
  • Outfitting: Fiberglass tube fittings with 3/16″ polyester cord. Ivory painted fiberglass Usuuappuu (protective tips) on ends.
