Clear Stream Fine Woodworking (CSFW)

The “Azure” was commissioned by a NH customer.  It is a standard BTD Njord that hase been scaled down to about 93% of normal size to fit his stature.  The kayak has a core of northern white cedar with a high-performance layup consisting of 4oz S-2 fiberglass cloth and 4oz Zylon aramid.  It is finished with a painted deck, white graphite hull (since redcoated with VC Performance Epoxy).  The solid carbon fiber hardware includes a custom-molded seat/bulkhead, recessed deck fittings, recessed coaming, hatch recesses and toggles.  Valley Canoe Products hatches and a Ritchie RU-90 compass round out the outfitting.

The Njord is a kayak with a large action radius with or without camping gear, with a potential for high touring speed in all conditions, and at the same time as easy to roll as a small play boat. The Njord will initially feel a bit tippy for the novice. The initial stability is relatively low, while the secondary stability is very high – giving a very soft and dry ride. For the experienced paddler Njord feels safe and reliable with easy, predictable movements in challenging conditions.
