Paddles for Canoes and Kayaks

Here are a few canoe or kayak paddles that we have made or repaired. They are a combination of solid wood, fiberglass and/or carbon fiber.  With two young girls we now specialize in crafting paddles for children.

2010 Composite Canoe Paddles

These are two canoe paddles we made in the Spring of 2010 for our personal use. They have a solid wood core made of cedar, black cherry and black walnut. For strength the paddle has a spine of cherry that runs the full length. The shaft is covered with a carbon fiber sleeve and the blades are skinned with fiberglass. The edges are hardwood and the tips are armored with solid graphite. The bent blade is set at a 13 degree angle. They each weigh about 13 ounces. Super light yet supple.

2010 CF Greenland Storm Paddle

The owner of the "Neytiri" Night Heron also requested that his "Cricket" brand wooden Greenland storm paddle be reskinned in carbon fiber to match.

2010 Lena's Pink CF Greenland Paddle

This is a Greenland paddle I made fro my eldest daughter, Lena, for Christmas 2010. She was almost 5 years old. Yes, it is PINK carbon fiber. It's actually a hybrid of plain carbon fiber interwoven with pink-colored fiberglass over a core of solid northern white cedar. The loom was covered with unidirectional CF.
