2007 Kayak Parts for Pat, NJ

Back in the summer of 2007 I was asked by Pat in NJ to build him a few components for the wood stripper he was building, a Guillemot Petrel, his first. First it started with some of my recessed deck fittings. No problem… then a paddle park. Ok… It culminated in a carved wood seat and backband. All in exchange for a slightly used Binks 2001 sprayer with paint pot. Barter is still alive… He worked on the boat all summer and fall. It still need varnishing but he was dieing to take it out on the water. The main wood is western redcedar. The other species are Alaskan yellow cedar and the African wood Padauk. Pat supplied the AYC and padauk. I was luck enough to have some redcedar that was close in color.
Hey There,
Hope all is well with you and the family, I’m sure its getting colder and colder every day up there.Well the day finally came yesterday, I actually got to paddle the yak…. yes it was freezing out and yes my hands were big ice chunks but It was totally worth it. The boat paddled great, it will paddle even better when I get a skeg put in, but it was awesome to finally see it floating. The seat is incredibly comfortable (surprising for an all wood seat) and it looks even better the paddle park works like a dream and the fittings look great.I can’t thank you enough for the great work and time you put into your piece of this long drawn out puzzle, without them my kayak would be only a fraction of how nice it looks today.
Thanks,
Pat
The wooden kayak seat came out very nicely and looked comfy when I tried it out in the shop. Pat has a bunch of his own pictures in his Webshots gallery. I’ll be offering both the seat/backband and paddle parks as regular options for custom boats or available for sale on the side.
