2006.12 “White” Black Pearl: Carbon Fiber Cockpit Coaming, Cont.

Coaming - Removing Foam FormAfter the epoxy had cured I trimmed the lip to size (I used a rotary tool, similar to a RotoZip). I removed the foam form material and the form release tape with some gentle persuasion. The packing tape left some residue from the adhesive. It would come off when I sand the deck but would gum up the sandpaper. I removed it with some paint thinner on a papertowel. I then sanded the coaming with power tools and by hand. The weave of the last layer was still open so I filled it with a coat of epoxy. Final sanding will commence after exterior priming.
