2006.12 “White” Black Pearl: Stripping Hull and Outer Stems
Mar 19th, 2007 | By Dan (CSFW) | Category: 06.12 White BP (NC)Stripping went very quickly using 1″ wide, square cut strips of western red cedar. I stripped this BP differently than the last. For this one I started by installing two strips at the sheer, then one thin chine strip. The remaining area was filled in. Strips adjacent to the chine were beveled. The bottom was also stripped differently from the last BP. I ran strips from the chine to the keel centerline. The ends were left rough. Two keel strips were cut into the stripped bottom.
The stems were flattened with a plane to receive the cherry outer stems. These were formed from two 3/16″ thick strips of cherry laminated together in place.
Alignment staples were pulled and the entire hull was sanded to P80 using a combination of power sanders and hand work using a longboard.
