2007.03 CR “Gray” Black Pearl: Paint and Outfitting = Finished!
Aug 27th, 2007 | By Dan (CSFW) | Category: 07.03 Black Pearl (NYC)As promised, here she is painted, polished and outfitted… in a nut shell: FINISHED!!
Painting: The boat was finished like before. The primer was sanded to P220. Then all the areas to remain clear (eg. the carbon fiber coaming and hatch recesses and tips) were also sanded to P220 and masked off. The boat was then sprayed with three coats of System3 Bainbridge White WR-LPU. When dry the masks were pulled from the carbon fiber areas, the CSFW logo and project info decal were glued to the inside and then the whole boat was sprayed with 2 coats of clear WR-LPU. When cured the final clear coat was sanded to S2000 and then buffed with automotive compounds to a sleek, semi-glass sheen.
Outfitting: The hatches were installed like before with silicone and stainless steel hardware. The hatch lids are tethered with high-test fishing line. The foam backrest was cut, shaped and covered with fabric. It’s attached with industrial velcro. The foam segments for the footrest were cutout and are held together with the same velcro. There are three segments each 2″ thick and one segment 1″ thick for about 7″ of adjustment for different size legs, in 1″ increments. The seat pad was installed (adhesive-backed 1/2″ thick minicell foam). The deck lines were installed using 3/16″ polyester cord from Neocorp running through epoxied and clear coated black walnut sliders. The only outfitting left to the Customer was the foam strip behind the knees (the masik).
Finished weight (fully outfitted) = 31 pounds (This is about a pound heavier than the last BP do to the slightly heavier deck layup)
