Finished - lawn ornament

Update 05/05/2008: A full photo gallery of the “Nereida” can now be seen here.

Work through 4/9/2008

Yup… As of 17:15 EST (5:15 PM) last night the “Nereida” is complete. It’s a good thing too because the shipping company is picking it on Friday the 11th! The last things to do were to install the deck lines (1/4″ bungee), hatch bungees and tethers (4mm Spectra) and cut out, fit the foam for the footbrace and mount the compass. I took her outside this morning for the first round of “beauty” shots.

Compass and deck lines

Hatch tethers

Minicell foam for footbraces.

The foam footbraces rest against the front bulkhead. They’re held in by friction.

I’l write up more about shipping, including the building of the 300 pound (135 kg) crate for our sweetheart, and a complete project summary next week. I’ll make a complete project gallery as well with high-resolution copies of all the images you’ve seen during construction and more you haven’t seen. There will be a full gallery of “beauty shots” also.

Oh yeah, final, fully outfitted weight you may ask: 43 pounds (19 kg)!! Right on schedule…

I have to go crate her up right now for her Trans-Atlantic journey. Gonzalo is dieing to finally meet her! No more words are really necessary… I think the pictures say enough (yes, the snow is finally melting). Too bad the local pond is still frozen… It would have been great to take her on some “sea trials.”
